Digging for gold!

Well I managed to last justover three hours!

One half of the extended bit was dug, grass removed and broken down.

The other half of the path, well I only dug half of it and is the first rough dig.

I feel a bit stiff but hope to finish the second half and get my winter onions and shallots!

I also show my two cabbages that I hope to enter in the winter show!

Allotment update

Well this weekend I managed to get a small area ready to plant some winter onions and shallots.

I used the area that my potatoes had been in as the ground was loose and just needed the top breaking down.

I was delighted to see that it rained in the night and I hope that we get some more so that this weekend I can get digging.

I am also excited as I may have two cabbages ready to enter in the winter show!

The allotment

It is very dry down there and I am having a nightmare trying to straighten it all up and extend it.

The good news is that I have been given a metal frame to make a new coldframe.

I just really need it to rain real hard now, preferably in time for next Saturday so I can do some Olympic gold medal digging!

The photos and this and future entries are bought to you via my totally addictive iPhone!!

Bee nest.

My mate is building a hive to try and get this nest so he can have honey! I am not convinced it will work but worth a go! The idea of fresh honey is very appealing! I will keep my fingers crossed for him. This weekend i will update as i plan to do ten hours and get on with my new layout.

Weekend Away

I am leaving about 11am tomorrow to go to Santa Pod in Northampton fow VW Action.

It will be my last chance to get away with the 2 room luxury tent!!! I have extra blankets and everything just incase!

I have a feeling that I will be windswept, soaked with rain but most of all I will be drunk, with good mates and happy!

I may attempt to post a few photos..... but I cannot be held responsible for anything upside down or any jibba jabba that may appear!

New Tank Clean Up!

Last night the tank got a jolly good clean.

It was in prpeparation of the move to the other side of the room this weekend.
I also have a pregnant Zebra danio but she won't lay her eggs so I thought that a change around and clean may encourage her.

Not the best photo but you get the idea!!!!!

Currently it is home to...

4 Black Widow
2 Zebra Danio
1 yellow female Platy
1 blue female Platy
1 dwarf Oto

Allotment Disappointment and Vodka!

Well, due to circumstances beyond my control, the allotment paid work did not pan out that well.

I say not well as in meaning it just never happened. Long story, but let’s just say that my edges remain crooked and my extension is still grass at the moment!!!

Once we have a good old run of rain to soften the concrete ground, then my mate Jim will do the work for me in the absence of his son.

I remain optimistic, but the ground looks like an earthquake has happened as it is full of giant cracks, all my veg is fighting to stay alive.

I, along with the other allomenteers, await rain now.

I had my best mate, little Miss A over on Saturday. We have a few vodkas and went for a walk round the local shops and I had a very productive time and went mad and bought myself 2 new tops. I know, I am a little minx at times!!!

We then treated ourselves to the most amazing Indian Take Away and watched the X Factor.

I have to say that I was disappointed. It seemed like there was all the hype but barely any auditions.

Luckily I was still buzzing from Bea leaving the BB house.

This weekend I mainly be decorating and playing with my new telly……. I know… it is really all happening here!

Allotment Redesign

After digging the allotment out initially, I vowed that I would never ever dig again on a large scale.

Whilst away last weekend, I paid a friends son to extend my allotment, and straighten up the sides and create new edges.

I am so excited as tomorrow morning I will be able to see it for the first time.

It will have an extra 5ft on it as I intend to grow more next year!

I am going to measure the plot and then start a proper plan for the next 12 months so that I can control what I grow and grow more of what I like.

I know this may sound sad, but I really am rather excited!

Last weekend felt very weird not being there and working.

I expect that the rest of it will look like a jungle though!!!!

I also hope to get my new key so that I can get on and off the allotments when it suits me! My old key had an issue so I have been unable to get in or out for the last 3 weeks aside from weekends.

24 Hours of Fun and Laughter!

Well, I was just so excited that I landed up leaving early to arrive about an hour before the rest of the gang!

I had the mammoth 11.3 mile journey to make!

I arrived and put up the 2 room erection all on my own. I got very hot but it only took about 40 minutes. However I did have to catch it twice as the wind lifted it, and I got abit confused as to where you start pegging out!

Anyway, here it is in its crowning glory!

Then Jenny, The Big D and Westy all arrived and got settled in.

I was impressed with Jenny and her very long pole....

But even more impressed with her peas in a pod...

I found the time to pose like Posh Spice in Jenny's glasses, just to prove that glasses do not suit all people!

I also managed to find to groove out, with the glasses and have an Austin Powers moment!

The Big D got all cavemen and whipped together a lovely new BBQ that had been bought for the occasion!

Then we simply sat in the sun, laughed, smiled and drank...... and drank...... and drank....

Then the darkness fell but they did not stop us!

Thanks people as I had a great time. I am just getting over the sunburn but my cheeks and sides still hurt from laughing so much!

I Am So Excited.....

as on Saturday I am heading off to go camping with an amazing lady and her amazing man.

It has been a year since we have seen each other in real life, and not even the threat of storms and downpours will dampen my joy at seeing them!

I am taking the 2 room errection but if the weather is really bad then I may sleep in their van.

I have all my camping stuff organised so it is just getting ti from the shed to the car on Saturday morning.

The best bit though is that it just 10.5 miles from my front door!!!!

Honest, I just can't wait......

A Cunning Plan

My life seems to be an endless list of cunning plans.

I plan and have all the best intentions to carry them out and get the reward and satisfaction of plan completion.

I keep chipping away at my website design but never seem to get that far with it, and I blame the photos for that!

I have plans to do a huge move around in my lounge. Now it is a smallish room, but I have my 60 litre tropical tank that requires careful planning so that the fish have little disruption.

I have a plan, I know roughly how long it will all take, and once that is moved, I know how I am going to shift the remaining items, sofa, hi fi equipment telly etc, but I just seem to always get distracted and never really get started.

This weekend my plan is again, to undertake the mass move of the lounge.

It all hinges on the weather, as if it is nice then I refuse to stay indoors and will be off down the allotment or mooching about.

Sometimes it is all well and good living for the moment, but I am wondering if I will ever get my website up and running and my lounge moved!!!

I blame the erratic weather. This causes me to panic if the sun shines and abandon all indoor tasks so that I can get out and make the most of working on the allotment or mooching about in just a t-shirt.

I used to write lists and lots of them. Since I stopped writing lists, there does seem to be a larger element of chaos in my life. I just refuse to be ruled by lists and this is what happens.

Next weekend I am camping with mates so at least I know where I will be and what I am doing!!!! I will be drunk, laughing and happy and the lounge move and website will not get a 2nd thought!

Rogi

Oh my goodness. Now you are really a blast from the past!!!!

So many chances have taken place, I am in Essex, on my own and vanless!!!!

I am so delighted that you commented and so pleased that you are still around!!!

I was going to reply in private but this old technology still gets me all muddled!!!!

What a really lovely surprise, you have made me day.

I really hope that all is well, and that if you have your own place on the net that you can share it with me.

How really lovely to hear from you.

I am now wondering what has happened to the rest of the gang?

Allotment Collection!

Thanks to my friend at The Snail Garden blog, I am trying this new way of showing my photo's!!

It shows how the allotment looks at the moment and the shallots, garlic and potatoes that I took home Saturday to cook!

I think that if you click on the grid it will enlarge! I know, it is almost too much to bear eh?

All photo's were taken with my Sony Ericsson K800i phone.

Here goes with my first ever test!

Vegetable Update!

Well, it has been some time, so I though that a quick catch up was in order.

I am very proud of all my veg, and proud of all the time that I have put in. I am so glad that I started my allotment and I have never eaten better so cheaply!!! I am addicted to veg now!!!

I do not use any potions/sprays etc so this lot is as organic as you can get!

I have just finished my first wave of growth and so far I have grown and eaten...
Broad beans- 3lb frozen ready for winter soups/risottos
Some lame leeks - planted too deep so bit short
Peas that were so sweet and addictive, 1lb frozen
Spinach by the bagfull
White onions - in tights all over the flat
Red onions - also in tights all over the flat
Garlic - bit sweet so maybe another week or two yet
New potatoes - to simply die for
Cauliflower - 5 out of 5 so I was rather chuffed

Currently I still have in the ground..
French beans - ready in next 10 days or so
Cougettes - picked one last night
Marrow - could be a prize winner
Raspberries - not supposed to be ready but a few are!
New potatoes - hope to be digging up for some time yet!
Maris piper Potatoes - not yet dug them up
Spinach - it really is never ending!
White onions - about another 15
Red onions - about another 10
Garlic - hopefully 20 odd but I think it was planted too deep
Cabbages - stupid big and like trees
Sprouts - to send to mother!
Sweetcorn - like trees and I am so excited!
Leeks - planted higher so should be better!

Due to all the above, I have now uncovered the final 1/4 of my half plot as I have decided to get digging again and prepare for a swathe of autumn growth!!!!

I am away this weekend again, but hope to start doing weekend updates every week!

The Big Errection

It was easier than it looked!
It was a totally amzing weekend. I am so lucky to have such mad and fantastic mates, such strong kidneys and a liver lined in steel!

Stupid Flu Bug

Well, I woke up feeling a bit weird on Saturday, could not really put my finger on it, just a bit weird.

I went down to allotment, dug up some spuds, pulled me broad beans out and then felt very hot and bothered and all out of sorts.

I walked back flat, and by the time that I got there I felt shocking.

Within hours I ached all over, had terrible nausea and a headache from hell.

Then the tummy upset started and I could barely keep water down let alone anything else.

I have not known anything like it. It has certainly knocked me for six.

Today I still have the over whelming nausea, a headache but I am not hurrying all over as much.

I feel so sorry for anyone that has swine flu.

I know need to get some weight on, stop feeling like poo and get ready for my camping adventure this weekend.

It is time to debut the tent, the cooker and the airbed if it ever arrives!

So it all about trying to eat and get strong enough so that I spend the weekend flushing this bug out with voddy.

Every cloud has a silver lining!!!!
